Good and Bad Link Exchanges

When designing a link campaign for your website you can be selective about how you design your link exchanges and with whom you exchange links. Many websites include a general links page of a variety of links from their link exchange campaign. This is not always the most professional looking way to go. Some business owners are also willing to exchange with just about anyone for links without truly evaluating the quality of that website or the value of exchanging links with that website.

Businesses can certainly work to set up a "classy" link campaign. A link exchange program can be professional and organized. In fact, this is the way it should be. Your link campaign should be designed in such a way that it truly does work for the benefit of your website. You want to have a link campaign that can improve your PR as well as brining potential clients to your website.

Your website might be one in which you can set up a directory to offer other helpful websites for your visitors. If this is the case you can use your directory to include the links of those websites in your link exchange campaign. By doing so you are creating an organized and professional way to exchange links while at the same time helping your visitors find other related, quality websites.

When starting a link exchange it is essential to only exchange links with websites that are in some way related to your own industry. If you exchange with websites related to your own both websites could benefit. The website that links to you can bring more visitors to your website and vice versa. If you exchange links with websites that are in no way related to your own industry you are not likely to see an increase in visitors to your website. Your link must catch the interest of people visiting the other website. If not, people are not likely to even click on your link.

As with any marketing or advertising method, you must first identify your target market. This will help you to find websites where you will benefit from having a link. Think of the people who will benefit from your business and then consider websites that these people will visit. Once you think of the websites you wish to have a link placed on, locate such websites.

Find several websites that might relate to your business or have the attention of people who could benefit from your products and services. Visit several of these websites and look over the sites. Make certain the sites are nicely designed. Look for quality content to be found on these sites. The website should be easy to navigate. You are doing all this to judge the quality of the website. You do not wish to have your link placed on a website that does not have much to offer their visitors. Find quality websites because this can boost the creditability of your website. If a link to your site is on a great website, people will know that your site also is a great site with a lot to offer.

Once you make a list of sites you want to be listed on, you will need to start some communications. Depending on the business you may be contacting the Webmaster or the business owner to discuss exchanging links. Whatever the case may be, you will want to find some contact information. Write an email asking if they would be willing to link to your website. Tell them you will include their link on your site. In fact, it would be nice for you to add their link to your directory before even approaching the website owner or Webmaster.
If you add the website to your directory you can simple email the contact person letting them know you have included their URL in their directory. You can then state that you would greatly appreciate if the would add your URL to their own directory or website. Make certain you state that it is not necessary for them to do so but would certainly be appreciated.

By taking the time to carefully plan your link exchange, you can create a great campaign that will improve your website' s credibility, improve your PR and help with your success in the search engines and that will bring more visitors to your website
